Every day is different. Every day can be a joy or a challenge. And every day, we store moments in our hearts. Choose what to store and store the good as you pursue what is right and what gives you peace.
Sometimes, it is easier to remember the misdeeds over the good deeds. As Warren Buffet once said, “You build your reputation for a lifetime but it takes only a second to ruin it.” This is because human as we are, we remember more of what went wrong over the things that went right. This is one reason why we need to train our heart and mind to see the good and store the good because remembering the bad takes no effort at all.
I am not saying that we forego doing what is right when we choose to forgive others. You forgive others because you deserve peace in your heart and peace is also about pursuig what is right. A clear conscience is still the best pillow at night. And a clear conscience is not only doing what is right alone but trusting the Lord that as you pursue what is right in His sight, you trust His guiding hand that when things doesn’t happen your way the way you plan it, He is still in control.
I believe God doesnt want us to bear the burden of taking revenge because as He said “It is mine to avenge.” Sometimes the best revenge is to focus on your life and live it well with peace and purpose.
Peace is also about courage, the courage to pursue what is right and the courage to let go of some things not worth fighting for. Life only gives us limited time, energy and resources and we need the wisdom to know what to pursue and which to let go.And in all these, we should not be overcome by a revengeful heart but rather a heart that focuses on doing what is right the right way and pursuing peace in our dealings.
When we are overwhelmed by emotions, our hearts can betray us. And so it is important to have an accountable friend whom you can talk with and who have the courage to rebuke you as necessary when you get lost in your emotions. Someone who will remind you to overcome evil with good and who will encourag you to surrender your heart to the Lord so he can refine it and mold it for His purpose.
When you learn to overcome evil with good, you try to store the good, to deal things not with a revengeful heart but a heart which pursues peace. And peace can come in so many forms. And the more you pursue what is right, store the good and pursue peace by overcoming evil with good, the more you get to live your life with peace and purpose.❤
